Marie Stopes, Married Love and The Metropolitan Sick Asylum
This walk takes in the story of Marie Stopes, the great pioneer of sex education and family planning, who helped liberate couples from fear and ignorance. We visit the site of one of her earliest clinics in London. We then pass the site of several extraordinary clinics around Fitzroy Square and the state-of-the-art research centre into Neuroscience and Electrophysiology before ending our walk at the beautiful Fitzrovia Chapel after we have heard the poignant story of London’s only surviving Georgian workhouse building, the former Out Patients Department of the Middlesex Hospital on Cleveland Street.

Fun in Fitzrovia - London’s most Cosmopolitan and Artistic Quarter
In this walk we explore the Bohemian side of Fitzrovia which has had a long-standing reputation as one of London’s most cosmopolitan and artistic quarters. The area has been home to writers, artists, intellectuals and revolutionaries. We meet Bernard Shaw, Virginia Woolf, Francisco de Miranda, Augustus John, Dylan Thomas, Prince Monolulu and a host of other luminaries. We plan to finish the walk in the beautifully restored Fitzroy Tavern, the undisputed headquarters of London’s artistic and Bohemian coterie for many decades.

The walk starts at Euston Square tube station and finishes at The Fitzrovia Chapel, formerly the Middlesex Hospital Chapel. The walk will take approximately 90 minutes.
